Stormcarver

I have been working -- slowly -- on a couple projects in the last couple months. One I cannot post as it is not necessarily appropriate for kids. It involves the human body in an interesting pose and was inspired by the natural knots in wood left by construction guys who built the deck in the apartments behind us. I may find a way to post it in the future.

The project that is making me crazy is the hand. It is approximately 6” x 4” and carved in white crystal alabaster. Jay wanted me to try something a bit bigger, and different, in stone and this is what happened.

The Hand All images are the physical and intellectual property of Barbara Minnick, aka Stormcarver. Unauthorized use prohibited. I still have quite a bit of work to do on this one, but am enjoying the challenge. The fingers are sketched in, and, oddly, look very crooked in the picture. They do have a bit of a crazy slant in reality, but not as much as it appears in the last photo. I am currently working on the thumb and shaping the back of the hand.

I haven’t been working overly much lately as I am trying to get used to the weather in South Carolina. It’s been playing hell with my joints and I have yet to find a method or medication that helps. I have a med appointment next Monday and hope we can find a solution.

I will post more in a later this week, when I have hopefully managed to make a significant improvement.
