Stormcarver

I finished carving the base for the lily. It was rather quick, as is it is small, but involved. It has to fit as perfectly as possible the bottom curves of the flower. In order to get that to happen, I used carbon paper, repeatedly checking for rubs and inaccuracies between the two pieces.

I decided against the stem on this one. J came out while I was carving and asked whether I was planning on adding a stem or just leaving the bottom piece much like it was. I considered the options and went with a standing base.

Alabaster Lily, Complete All images are the physical and intellectual property of Barbara Minnick, aka Stormcarver. Unauthorized use prohibited. Then, of course, it was time to epoxy the pieces together. This is the end result. (If I change my mind, it’s still possible to add a stem...) And, even on an overcast day, with the base attached, the translucence isn’t lost. I liked working this piece very much. The possibilities and stone were exciting to discover. Am looking forward to making a set of mini Calla Lilies. Archive Main -> <- Previous
