Because I haven’t worked with this stone in the past, I was surprised to find it much harder than the alabaster and various soapstones I have used. I chose to hit them with the hand sander instead of spending days trying to get them to a point where I could work with them.

Roses, Utah Pipestone I started with a raw piece of Utah Pipestone, about 2 pounds in size. That was cut into four pieces, as the plan was to get 4 roses our of it. The blocks were about 1.5”x1.75” and approximately 2” tall. I have an amazing number of rose pics to choose from on my pc (used mainly for storage at this point), so matched blocks with general styles and went from there.
