UPS showed up with my stone order today. Wahoo! I called not too long ago since the 5-7 day shipping on this order had turned into 3 weeks. Turns out that some of the stone I chose was part of a lot held at the border....and held....and held. Montoya Sculpture, where I ordered the majority of the stock I now have, was extremely apologetic and helpful. Instead of the 40 pounds I ordered, 60 was sent.

I was disappointed to find that the Pink Lace Alabaster I wanted was not coming anytime soon. Montoya, however, substituted a white Crystal Alabaster, which should work nicely and may even by dyable in interesting ways.

Anyway, below are the pics of the stone I have on hand. The Domestic Alabaster, Crystal Alabaster, Mexican Raspberry Alabaster and Green Cloud Wonderstone are all from Montoya Sculpture. The Translucent Alabaster cylinder was ordered from Sculpture House, and the Green Soapstone (as well as the Utah Pipestone I am currently working with) came from Outwest Trade Company.http://montoyasculpture.com/http://sculpturehouse.com/default-storefront.aspxhttp://stores.ebay.com/Outwest-Trade-Companyshapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1shapeimage_2_link_2

Stone Arrival! All images are the physical and intellectual property of Barbara Minnick, aka Stormcarver. Unauthorized use prohibited. Domestic Alabaster and Translucent Alabaster.

I love the contrasts between these two stones. The darkness at the edges of the Domestic is just as amazing as the clarity and perfection of the Translucent. The Crystal Alabaster.

WoW! Dense and solid, the flawless color of this stone is beautiful. Mexican Raspberry Alabaster.

If you look at the edges of this stone, you can see the difference between what this looks like dry/unfinished and what it will look like when polished. Love the color! Green Cloud Wonderstone.

Nearly the same color as the soapstone below, but denser and less translucent. I can’t wait to see what all it will be capable of.
Green Soapstone.

I love this stuff. When carved and polished, it looks like Jade. Check out the boxes on my work page made of the green. This is just a shade or two lighter than the stone I used for those.shapeimage_9_link_0
This has got to be the only household I have ever witnessed that gets excited when the UPS guy shows up with a box of rocks! Pipestone Rose II -> <- Pipestone Rose I Archive Main
