Lilies

This was the first Calla Lily I carved, from White Crystal Alabaster and green Wonderstone. The color is translucent glass paint.

This mini CallaLily was part of a series project. It is 1.5x1.5x1.75 inches and 1/32 inch thick at it’s edges. It is hand-carved from translucent alabaster. When set upon a shelf, it catches the light and appears transparent in places.

These mini CallaLilies were part of a series project. They are approximately 1.5x1.5x1.75 inches and 1/32 inch thick at their edges. They are hand-carved from translucent alabaster, and some have added translucent color, as you can see. They are stemmed and ready to vase, individually or together.

I tried carving lilies for the first time in April, 2006. Had gotten some fantastic Alabaster and just couldn’t resist. I very much like carving them and am happy with the results and possibilities. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do carving them.

I so enjoyed carving the last set of lilies, I decided to see if I could improve upon them. Exploring with polymer clays and airbrushing gave me some ideas, so I went to work. I am so happy with the results! The photo, too was a nice surprise.

Each lily is approximately 1”-1.5” x 1.75”-2” x 20”, including the stem, and carved, wherever possible, to as thin as 1/32” thick to take advantage of the translucent quality of the stone. The airbrush color, too, emphasizes the quality of the stone. You can see through them just about everywhere but the base.

The curly maple stems are airbrushed with custom color, overlaid with a pearlescent for effect.

Ready for vase display, individually or in group.
