StormcArver Sculpture Home

Wood is an amazing medium, ranging from very soft to so hard that you cannot carve it by hand. Grains can be simple or completely ridiculous to try to predict. The number of finishes available are seemingly endless. For these reasons, I enjoyed working with wood for many years. However, because of some physical issues, my most favorite woods are now very difficult to work with. I also cannot use most large power tools, so am confined to small projects when it comes to this material. I have chosen, because of this, to use woods to enhance my stone projects.

What you see here are older pieces, completed at least 5 years ago. I thought they should be included as part of the history. I do wish that I had more of a record of my earlier projects. If I am able to locate old photos, I plan to scan them and add to this page in the future. All images are the physical and intellectual property of Barbara Minnick, aka Stormcarver. Unauthorized use prohibited. Native American Courting Flute of curly maple, which is great fun to carve. Stylized frogs ring the bottom end.

Native American Courting Flute of Aromatic Cedar, made for my partner. There is a Celtic love knot at the top and stylized dragonfly at the bottom. Blue deerskin holds the mahogany sounding piece.

This first attempt at 3-dimensional carving was made from a 2x6 from the illustrious Home Depot.
